Greetings from Ubud, Bali

Yes I'm back in Ubud for a short while. Last week I was telling you about the dodgy goings on in Jakarta with Coco and her return trip to China. If you missed it you can catch up here.
Coco left Indonesia (and me) on the same day the Queen died. We took a taxi to the airport and checked in to the Jakarta Airport Hotel which is inside terminal 2E - because Coco flight was at midnight and we could rest there until her time to leave and I could sleep there until my flight back to Bali the next morning. If you are ever in Jakarta I would recommend this hotel if you have early or late timings.. super helpful people, quiet rooms and good lounge.. plus they will make sure you get to the right terminal, even by car - which they did for Coco. At 9pm I went with Coco, a porter and the luggage outside where a car was waiting to take her to the International terminal.
The moment we said our goodbyes, a hug, she jumped in the back seat and the door slammed shut, smoked glass, I couldn't see her - and she was gone.

We are closed on Monday in respect for the Queen's Funeral - hope your day is peaceful and reflective, whatever your views this event marks the passing of an era. That is something to reflect on.

The next morning I took the sky-train to the Air Asia terminal - and on an early flight back to Bali, Ringo was waiting for me in arrivals. "We have a lot of work to do Ringo" - I told him..
Coco arrived in Hong Kong, spent five hours in various queues before being taken to the quarantine hotel downtown for three nights.. after she flew to Xiamen on a very short flight but now inside China - inside a government quarantine centre being tested two times a day for seven days. The room is large and clean with a good supply of water and snacks. Room enough to practice the yoga moves she learned in Ubud.. she is getting to expert level.. and posting her moves on her social media channel in China. After Xiamen she needs to get home to Yiwu.. could fly or go by train, and it's not clear if she will have to do further quarantine in Yiwu, she thinks three days. So much trouble, so many tests.. it will have taken basically a month to get back inside China. You can't help thinking this is designed to stop Chinese people from travelling, a travel ban in all but name.

Here in Bali my first job was to go and see the three wise incense men of Ubud.  They are incense obsessed and produce a very special incense made from over 30 herbal ingredients developed over three generations and now tweaked and perfected for Ancient Wisdom.. They call it simply: Healing Incense and it has to be burned in a particular ritualistic way..  I went along to smell the modified fragrances. My idea was to make the aromatic element more dominant and create a cleaner recognisable fragrance. So because of the delay in Jakarta they had more time to work on getting the blends perfect. And I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, I have a very good nose.. and almost all fragrances products have to get past my nose before they can be listed at AW. And these guys had listened closely to my brief and delivered.

We gave them a decent sized order, and in thanks they had to make offerings.. in fact before each business meeting they make an offering. Before each batch is carefully blended which I understand has to be done according to the Balinese calendar.. they make an offering. All this mindfulness and focus I believe will make an excellent product.
We asked how long it would take to complete our order.. and before giving us an answer they had to consult the Bali calendar.. because timing is important and there are days you can and cannot start a project.

There are 210 days in a Balinese year, and that overlaps with other local calendars.. it's very complicated.

Anyway the deal is done and now I'm working on packaging and presentation with Bondan.. our designer here.
Lots of other projects are underway and have to finalised over the next few days.. so a busy time.

I'll update you next week. By then Coco should be back home in Yiwu.
Have a restful weekend.

David
