Howlite is a mineral from the group of silicates, belonging to the group of rare minerals. It owes its name to the nineteenth-century chemist and mineralogist Henry Howa, because he was the first to discover and describe it in Nova Scotia, Canada.

As with all white stones, the howlite is believed to bring peace and clarity to the mind - however, its black lines mean that the mind is still working, that it is focused, not cut off. Howlite is primarily a calming stone. It can help you fall asleep or calm an overactive mind and help you relax.

These gemstones are packed in bags of 24 and are approximately 20-30mm per stone.

Are small pits, lines or uneven areas in a polished stone a fault? +

Not automatically. Tumbling smooths and polishes the surface, but it does not necessarily remove every natural inclusion, fracture or indentation. A stone with normal mineral features is acceptable; obvious fresh breaks, sharp damaged edges or significant chips should be treated differently.

Can all tumble stones be cleaned in the same way? +

No. Different gemstones react differently to water, heat, chemicals and ultrasonic cleaning, so one intensive cleaning method should not be recommended for the whole collection. A soft cloth is the safest general starting point; where suitable, gentle cleaning with mild soapy water is preferable to strong chemicals, steam or ultrasonic equipment.

Will the polished surface scratch or chip with everyday handling? +

It can. Hardness and toughness vary considerably between gemstones, so some stones tolerate knocks better than others. Customers carrying stones in a pocket or bag should ideally keep them away from keys, coins and harder objects if they want to preserve the polish.

Can I advertise specific healing benefits for the stones? +

Crystal associations can be described as spiritual traditions or personal beliefs, but medical or therapeutic effects should not be presented as proven facts.
