· Turn products into ready-made gifts – pre-fill the bags with your existing stock and give customers an easy gift they can simply pick up and take away.
· Let the product do some of the selling – clear window designs keep the contents visible, so customers can see exactly what they are buying rather than guessing what is inside.
· A practical extra sale – the bags add value to candles, bath products, preserves, small home fragrance items and gift sets, without requiring you to introduce another product category.
· Useful beyond the first gift – customers can reuse the bags for storage, regifting or carrying small everyday items, giving the packaging a life after the original purchase.
· Several useful formats – the collection includes bags for individual jars, multiple jars and other small gifts, along with a fold-flat jute box for larger or differently shaped presents.
· Long-standing wholesale supply from India – made in India by one of Ancient Wisdom’s established suppliers, with AW working with the same factory and team for more than two decades.
Jute has been part of Bengal’s story for a very long time. The fibre has been grown, spun and woven in the region for centuries, long before it became a major industrial and export material. Serampore, where the factory supplying these AW bags is located, has a long connection with the jute industry and sits on the banks of the Ganges, just outside Kolkata.
Ancient Wisdom has been working with Mr Chatterjee and his factory since 2004. David remembers his first visit to the area well: he asked Mr Chatterjee to take him to see a jute farmer and learn more about how jute was produced, after visiting an old British-era jute mill. David recalls that AW was among the early UK companies importing all-natural jute bags into Britain.
The relationship has continued ever since.
The clever bit about gift packaging is that it can sell what is already on your shelves. Put a candle, a couple of bath products, a few jars of preserves or a small home-fragrance gift into a suitable bag and suddenly you have a ready-made present. The clear window on selected designs means the customer can still see the contents, while the handles make the finished gift easy to carry.
For merchandising, try displaying a few pre-filled bags alongside the products they contain, rather than keeping the packaging in a separate packaging section. It gives customers ideas and shows them what they can create. The bags also work nicely alongside jars, candles, bath and body products and other giftable items.
And don't forget to show the wider collection together. A display of different bag formats gives customers more ideas and encourages them to think in terms of gift sets, rather than just buying the packaging on its own.
