This black-and-white Money Cat carries a particularly clear message of good fortune and positive change. The body is marked with phrases associated with great fortune and inviting happiness. Gold bells, red decoration and the lucky red cushion complete the auspicious design.

The Chinese characters are the main story here. Some mean inviting or attracting good fortune, while others mean great fortune or a significant increase in luck. Together, they make this cat less focused on money and more on welcoming a wider range of good things.

That makes this particular design rather versatile as a gift. It can be given to someone starting a new venture, moving home, beginning a new job or simply going through a period when a bit of extra luck would not go amiss.

The black-and-white colouring gives it a much more striking appearance than the traditional gold Money Cats. The gold bells hanging from both raised paws bring another celebratory element to the design.

There is also a practical side to all this good fortune: it is a money bank. So while the symbols are wishing the owner success and happiness, the cat can also hold some actual savings. A reasonably sensible place for prosperity to start.

Which Money Cats should I try first? +

A small group works better than a solitary cat. Start with boxed solar cats for the till, a choice of colours and one or two larger waving styles to give the display some height. Add a money-bank design for customers looking for something practical.

Do all the cats have a moving paw? +

No. The range includes solar-powered and battery-operated waving cats, alongside fixed-paw money banks and decorative figures. Check the individual product title before ordering—the money banks save coins but do not wave them in.

Will the solar-powered cats work inside my shop? +

Yes, provided they receive enough light. A bright window, counter or well-lit shelf is best; a gloomy corner may leave them looking rather less enthusiastic. Try the display position before deciding that a cat has gone on strike.

Are batteries included with the battery-operated cats? +

No. Different models require one or two AA or AAA batteries, so check the individual listing. Some are designed to wave continuously and therefore have no on/off switch or battery-compartment cover; this is intentional rather than a missing part.

Where should I display them? +

Near the entrance, till or front window—traditionally the places where a Maneki-neko beckons customers into a business. Leave enough room around moving paws and place a few colours and heights together; the movement is far more noticeable when customers can see the cats as they approach.

Are they Japanese or Chinese? +

The Maneki-neko is Japanese in origin, although it became widely adopted in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Chinese communities around the world. These cats are made in China, and some designs carry Chinese good-fortune characters alongside the familiar Japanese-inspired form.
