The Large Money Cat makes a bold statement with its gold finish, red details and oversized ingot held close to its body. Its raised left paw gives the traditional beckoning gesture, associated with attracting people and customers, while the overall design carries strong prosperity symbolism.

There is quite a lot of symbolism packed into this particular cat. The raised left paw is traditionally said to beckon people, customers and visitors, which is why left-paw Maneki-neko are particularly associated with shops and other customer-facing businesses.

The cat also holds a large gold ingot marked with the Chinese character meaning good fortune or blessing. On the raised paw, another characters are associated with welcoming wealth and bringing in treasure, adding another layer of prosperity symbolism to the design.

The gold, red and green decoration gives this version a particularly cheerful, festive appearance. It is the sort of piece that customers can buy for the symbolism, the colour and the character of the cat itself — or, quite reasonably, all three.

For retailers, the left-paw meaning makes this especially easy to recommend as a gift for a new shop or business, while the gold ingot and prosperity symbols give it an obvious connection with wealth and success.

Please note: Battery compartment does not have a cover and also does not have an on/off button as it is designed to wave constantly. Batteries not included.

Which Money Cats should I try first? +

A small group works better than a solitary cat. Start with boxed solar cats for the till, a choice of colours and one or two larger waving styles to give the display some height. Add a money-bank design for customers looking for something practical.

Do all the cats have a moving paw? +

No. The range includes solar-powered and battery-operated waving cats, alongside fixed-paw money banks and decorative figures. Check the individual product title before ordering—the money banks save coins but do not wave them in.

Will the solar-powered cats work inside my shop? +

Yes, provided they receive enough light. A bright window, counter or well-lit shelf is best; a gloomy corner may leave them looking rather less enthusiastic. Try the display position before deciding that a cat has gone on strike.

Are batteries included with the battery-operated cats? +

No. Different models require one or two AA or AAA batteries, so check the individual listing. Some are designed to wave continuously and therefore have no on/off switch or battery-compartment cover; this is intentional rather than a missing part.

Where should I display them? +

Near the entrance, till or front window—traditionally the places where a Maneki-neko beckons customers into a business. Leave enough room around moving paws and place a few colours and heights together; the movement is far more noticeable when customers can see the cats as they approach.

Are they Japanese or Chinese? +

The Maneki-neko is Japanese in origin, although it became widely adopted in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Chinese communities around the world. These cats are made in China, and some designs carry Chinese good-fortune characters alongside the familiar Japanese-inspired form.
