ChinaCan I sell the bottles empty? +
Yes. They can be sold as empty craft and packaging bottles, or filled to create your own car fragrance range. Once you fill and brand them, however, you become responsible for the safety, classification, labelling and traceability of the finished product. GB suppliers placing chemical mixtures on the market must classify, label and package them correctly before sale.
What should I fill them with? +
Use a purpose-made car diffuser base together with a fragrance suitable for this type of product. We would not recommend simply filling the bottle with neat fragrance oil or essential oil, as the finished blend may be too strong, may not diffuse properly and may not be suitable for the bottle components. Ask your fragrance supplier for an IFRA Certificate covering the intended use. Non-aerosol car fragrance and air-delivery products normally fall within IFRA Category 12, but the final formulation remains the responsibility of the business making the product.
Should I test the bottles before selling them filled? +
Definitely. Fill a small trial batch and check the bottle, stopper, wooden cap, cord and vent clip for compatibility with your chosen mixture. Test for leaks while upright and tilted, and leave samples in warmer and cooler conditions before producing a larger batch. Chemical packaging must be securely fastened and resistant to its contents so that the liquid cannot escape during normal handling.
What instructions should I give the customer? +
Explain clearly how the diffuser should be fitted or hung, and advise customers not to obstruct the driver’s view. Include a warning to keep the bottle upright, avoid over-saturating the wooden cap and wipe away any spill immediately, as fragrance liquid should not remain in contact with dashboards, trim, upholstery or painted surfaces. Keep out of reach of children and pets, together with any additional precautions required by the finished-product classification.
Is it simpler to bundle the empty bottle with an AW fragrance or blend? +
Yes. Keep the AW fragrance in its original labelled bottle and let the customer fill the diffuser at home. As you are not decanting or mixing the product, you would not normally need to create a new label or UFI.
