Orthoceras fossils have been found on many continents, including the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Asia. Ours are from Morocco. They are dated to the lower Ordovician to Triassic ages (500 to 190 million years ago).
These creatures were among the most advanced invertebrates of their time having eyes, jaws, and a sophisticated nervous system. They were predators that swam freely using a jet propulsion system by squirting water from their bodies.
